While I’m working on a window display, I like to share with you this moodboard! A moodboard is often times used by creatives (interior designers, visual merchandisers, graphic designers) to collect and share ideas with others. This way it’s easier to set the right direction for the project / collection. Mood boards are typically a combination of images, fonts, colors, and textures or anything that someone think is important for the project.
Small (thumbnail) sketches
I always like to incorporate some small sketches. They can look really rough, but it gives a quick idea of the composition. In this case I have several windows and want to have a focus point in the middle. I also already like to have some symmetry and put a laying mannequin doll in the middle.
I want to create a hidden garden, a secret garden so to speak. The figures are surrounded by big leaves. Animals like cockatoos and rabbits. The shapes will have a cutout effect, like it is a ‘show-box’ or something you would use on a decor. This way I can also use the space above the dolls, by hanging illustration decor.
For this display I’ve tried different things out. I’ve made a few test illustrations with light lines on a dark background and I like how it totally transforms the original drawing. At first I wanted to use light colours, but the light animals on a darker background gives this glowy more mysterious effect.
I’m using marble blocks to put the mannequin dolls on to bring nature back.
